Gridlife is the Future

The Gridlife paddock at Gridlife Autobahn in Joliet Illinois in 2021.

Anyone who has ever been to a large professional motor race knows that the track area is highly restricted, bar a few outlying tracks. The experience of getting up close and personal has disappeared as a staple of pro racing. Gridlife aims to bring back the open paddock and fan connections that brought up past generations of racers and fans everywhere. I personally believe that the way to grow any sport or hobby is to make it as assessable as you can. This is the mission of Gridlife.

Gridlife Goes about this in several ways. Chief among them is the practice of HPDE or High Performace Driving Event. This allows any safe working car to make laps on the track. Even a full-size SUV can participate in the festivities. Moving on from HPDE is the time attack classes, of which there are many. These classes provide something for everyone. Including a small battalion of Honda Fits prepped to varying degrees of amazing. Everywhere from dangerous to almost fully race equipped. The key bit of that last statement was almost.

At the top end of the Time attack bracket lies the Unlimited Class. A group of Cars that more closely resemble airplanes than cars. These so-called cars are almost certainly the “just a day with the boys” project of some aero engineers given free rein to do as they please.

Time attack along with HPDE provide young drivers and those just looking to gain some speed before stepping into Wheel-2-Wheel classes. Or if they fancy stay in time attack and join the infinite quest for speed.

Gridlife Registration

Where Gridlife Excels is in the method of registration. In theory, if you have a racecar that meets GLTC Rules you simply have to pop onto their website, select the event you wish to participate in, and finally pick which class you want to drive in from HPDE to GLTC. And of course, you do have to pay, however, their fees are perfect for those working below the budget of a pro race team.

Conclusion

These things combined with the amazing culture that can be found at a Gridlife event make it an amazing event for anyone looking to drive on track. Alternatively, if you are just looking for a car event that your family will agree to go to this one will fit the bill.

All things combined Gridlife gives an easy format for getting involved in on-track action. Along with this, it has a lower bar of entry than many other organizers. Gridlife and other such events are the way to save auto racing for future generations. Because the way to grow is by making it as easy as possible and that is what Gridlife does.
